On a sunny April day in Southern California, Chad "Chavo" Amborn was born. While still an infant, his mother took him on the road with a Southern based rock band called Thunder Flash. It was during these first few years of his life that music would root itself in Chavo. Finally, at the age of seven, he picked up a pair of sticks and began playing drums. He credits his first beats to his Punk Rock uncle Jimmy, who taught him the basics in the garage of Chavo's Van Nuys home. He would later be inspired through his step father, Rocco to continue the hard work ahead.
Chavo played on and off growing up but he didn't take the instrument serious until he moved out to Colorado at the age of 19. It was there that he would join his first band and actually looked at his instrument as a voice in which he could communicate through.
Chavo's influences have stemmed from late 60's and early 70's bands like Santana, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Traffic, Blind Faith, etc. to today's favorites like Tool, 311, No Doubt, P.O.D.and Rage Against the Machine to name a few. Recently, the drummers of Erykah Badu, Floetry, Sade, The Roots, Zap Mama and more have captured his interest and are becoming the strongest backbone for his creativity and new sound.
Chavo met Toby and Danny a few years back when he joined one of Northern Minnesota's strongest original acts, crazybetty, which has recently dismembered, giving birth to this newest up and coming original band in Minnesota, The Alrights. In addition to The Alrights, Chavo can be found behind the kit at The Duluth Vineyard, various clubs around town filling in for others or randomly jamming at an open mic jam session.
To be a part of these latest developments is what Chavs has been waiting for all these years. Watching things unfold for him and the band has become an exciting part of his career thus far. When I asked him what he thought of the current project, all he said was, "Some people search their whole lives for that perfect chemistry between band members and good song writing. It's easy to find one of the two. It's very rare you end up with both. I'm just fortunate enough to have been at the right place at the right time with enough experience to bring something to the table."
